Jack Rogers, Rodney Mooring Services owner

Who is RMS

Rodney Mooring Services is here to keep local moorings working properly.

Based in Sandspit, Rodney Mooring Services is a swing mooring contractor servicing the Rodney and Mahurangi region of Auckland. The business was recently acquired by Jack Rogers, with a clear objective: provide prompt, capable, no-fuss marine service from a genuine local base.

The work ranges from scheduled mooring inspections and servicing through to repairs, upgrades, new installations, freight and salvage. Every job is anchored by local water knowledge, practical engineering judgment and a barge set up to handle real operational work.

Jack's story

Competitive sailing roots, marine systems experience, and a practical local mindset.

Born and raised on Auckland’s North Shore, Jack Rogers grew up around the gulf and the working realities of coastal boating.

He sailed competitively for New Zealand until 2016, represented the NZ youth sailing team, and competed in the SL16 multihull class at the 2014 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships.

Since then he has worked full time in the marine industry as a marine systems engineer, building a reputation for practical problem solving and capable hands-on service.

Jack also operates Lowlands Marine and has moved to Takatu with his partner to build a more local coastal lifestyle close to the waters he works on every week.

Deck hand

Jack Harnett has recently joined Rodney Mooring Services as deck hand. A builder by trade, he brings a tradesman's eye for materials, fixings and finish. Useful skills on a barge that is constantly setting, lifting and securing gear.

Outside of work he is a keen fisherman who knows the local coast well, which means he is just as comfortable on the water as he is on the deck.

Pest Free Warrant

Island work also means biosecurity responsibility.

Rodney Mooring Services operates as a Pest Free Warrant operator. That means vessels and cargo can be cleared of pests, weeds and disease risks before travel to gulf islands. It matters because freight and marine service in the Hauraki Gulf is not only about logistics, it is also about protecting island environments from avoidable spread.

Compliance and standards

Servicing cycles are not paperwork for the sake of paperwork.

Swing moorings generally require servicing and inspection every two to three years depending on requirements and condition.

Auckland Transport and Harbour Master compliance matters because owners need confidence their mooring remains fit for purpose and properly documented.

Insurance confidence matters too. A well-maintained mooring with current certification reduces uncertainty when the weather turns or claims are assessed.

Rodney Mooring Services can carry out the work and manage the certification workflow so owners are not left chasing the process themselves.
